Meansheets is a movie poster blog that features vintage movie posters, French movie posters, and the movie poster artists and illustrators from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970's and 1980s who designed them.
This weekend marks the 75th Anniversary of the great Golden Gate Bridge — so here’s a movie poster tribute to one of America’s most beautiful landmarks. That said, the glorious International Orange-painted bridge has dealt with its share of troubled waters over the years as 11 men were killed during its original construction — and it was also reported to be America’s #1 suicide destination in The New Yorker, which also inspired the compelling, but controversial documentary, The Bridge.
Regardless of its tragic history though, this iconic monument of early 20th Century manpower is still a stunner — happy birthday, Golden Gate!
Anthony Hopkins (pictured right) is slated to become Alfred Hitchcock (aka Hop-Kock!) in an upcoming biopic on The Master of Suspense. Hopefully, the one-sheet won’t go to The Birds and will be as mysteriously elegant as vintage French-Cock.
Manfredo Acerbo, who signed his posters with just his first name, had a talent for design with his loose, sophisticated, painterly style. Certainly, there are other Italian poster artists with much higher profile credits on their résumé (namely, Ercole Brini), but Manfredo’s work is just as pretty — even if the films themselves were not.
It looks like Blue Crush director, John Stockwell (who you may remember as an actor from Losin’ It, My Science Project, and Top Gun), is going back to the Stockwell again with Dark Tide!
The new Sundance slasher pic, Silent House, starring that other Olsen sister, Elizabeth — has a new “virtual” one-sheet out. Is this the wave of the future for the movie poster?
Unfortunately, WordPress doesn’t play well with Flash, so you’ll have to check it out HERE!
This weekend’s new release, One For The Money, is yet another cinematic take on the Bounty Hunter — prominently featuring that ol’ movie poster prop favorite, handcuffs.
But let’s not confuse it with those other classic fightin’ bountys!
Tom Hodge aka The Dude Designs — not to be confused with that other dude from The Big Lebowski (although Hodges’ artwork does show off a certain original charm and character) — is doing his darnedest to elevate the art of the B-movie horror poster and DVD artwork to a B+ level and beyond!
