About russ

Russ Ryan is an avid fan of movie posters -- sometimes even more so than the actual movies themselves! But he's not just a poster geek, he also was lucky enough to have a film produced by the makers of AMERICAN PIE -- the classic, unforgettable, much less successful National Lampoon presentation, REPLI-KATE, starring Ali Landry, James Roday, and Eugene Levy.

Twisted Fates?

Here’s two sketchy one-sheets from 1960s design studs, Bob Peak and Paul Crifo, respectively, that will make you see red…

Built by Bilinsky

Fritz Lang’s 1927 sci-fi classic, Metropolis, could hardly be more timely now with today’s troubling economy pitting wealthy owners versus the working class.

And with the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks this weekend, I thought it fitting to commemorate the work of Russian-born costume designer — yes, I said, costume designer — Boris Bilinsky (not to be confused with that other Belinsky), who also apparently dabbled in designing movie posters as seen below by these one-sheet architectural marvels that he constructed way back in the roaring 20s. Bad Girls Do Good?

Perhaps Young Adult is ripping out a page from the good box office of Bad Teacher…?

For Young Adults Only…

Jason Reitman, one of the few directors today who has taken a pro-active approach in helping design the movie posters and title sequences for all of his films, has just released the one-sheet for his latest flick, Young Adult.

The comedy stars Charlize Theron as an alcoholic writer of YA novels who returns to her hometown in hot pursuit of her married ex-high school sweetheart. (via THR, ImpAwards, and Art of the Title)

Thank You For Smoking title sequence…

Cavewomen!

Inspired by Raquel Welch’s sexy pre-historic One Million Years BC poster (which was also featured prominently in The Shawshank Redemption), a friend wrote in to mention Barbara Bach’s loincloth-clad turn in the classic — or, more likely, never-seen — 1980’s Ringo Starr comedy, Caveman

Natalie Portman Raquel Welch Mashup!

Last year, we had a Jennifer Aniston-Barbara Streisand mashup — now it’s time for a Natalie Portman-Raquel Welch movie poster showdown!

Natalie Portman = Raquel Welch 2011?

Last week, the AllPosterForum was seriously debating the merits of Raquel Welch movie posters (because, after all, this is very stuff!) — but I couldn’t help but notice a strong resemblance to Natalie Portman — er, vice versa…

Perhaps Miss Portman’s 2010 commercial for Dior (directed by Sofia Coppola) will influence your opinion…
