To Rome With Love…

Woody Allen speaks Italian in his new film…

Le Kitchen Sink Poster of the Week

This Constantin Belinsky french action movie poster has it all — loaded firearms, a hostage/kidnapping situation with a girl in a bikini held by knifepoint, a tsunami wave about to hit the beach and wipe out a classic muscle car — and then to top it off, a bull’s eye target looming behind the tagline!

Kim Novak Art Show

Don’t get dizzy, but Kim Novak, the star of Hitchcock’s Vertigo, is returning to the scene of the crime — in this case, San Francisco — to make a local appearance to celebrate her movies as well as donate the sales of her personal artwork to charity.

Joan of Arcs

Last week’s Hollywood Reporter profile of Mad Men star, Christina Hendricks, entitled “The Arc of Joan” — got me thinking about all of those other powerful Joan film adaptations that caused a firestorm.

Happy Alcatraz Anniversary!

Today marks the 50th Anniversary of the three prisoners who escaped Alcatraz Island Penitentiary back in 1962, but were never found or heard from again — unless you saw Clint Eastwood’s portrayal in Escape From Alcatraz. And the arresting one-sheet was done by 1970’s-80’s star illustrator, Birney Lettick.

So whether you’re stuck in jail today or free as a bird, enjoy this ration of Alcatraz movie posters, including an early Boris Grinsson french poster for the never-before-seen (at least to my eyes), Alcatraz Island

Pigeot Posters

Not merely satisfied to feed off the crumbs from such 1940’s contemporaries as Bernard Lancy, Henri Cerutti, and Jacques Bonneaud, Pierre Pigeot spread his artistic wings, flying high with several Hollywood classics during his time, including Casablanca and Key Largo.

But if you really want to get a master class in Pigeot’s work (and many other French artists), be sure to check out Dominique Besson’s website, and drop her an email to download her latest catalog.

That’s Amour-é!

I know this is old news, but meet this year’s Cannes Film Festival winner of the Palme d’Or. (IMP)

HBO Goes Hemingway

The new HBO film, Hemingway & Gellhorn, premieres tonight under the direction of Philip Kaufman. Many have tried and failed to capture the great writer’s prose onto film — let’s hope Kaufman pulls it off!
