It was a super duper weekend at the box office for Super 8, the new J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg-produced film that’s been described as a 21st Century mix of E.T. (by John Alvin) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I think this French version of The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie coupled with the German version of The American Friend (by Sickert) proves that even movie posters are truly universal.

Speaking of Get Carter, the Italian movie poster greatly mimics the classic Carter Beats The Devil magic poster, which was also the subject of a novel by Glen David Gold, and may be heading to the big screen soon…

Crown of Lichtenstein?

Do you think Harry Crown (99 and 44/100% Dead) and Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks) are somehow cinematically related? Doubtful probably, but the unmistakable Roy Lichtenstein-esque pop art touch is clearly seen in both the vintage Get Carter and Happy Tears movie posters below, the latter of which was directed by Lichtenstein’s son, Mitchell Lichtenstein

It appears that Pam Grier and company are taking it off in Cannes for their new flick, Skinny Dip — and their movie poster cheesily resembles that barely memorable 80’s comedy, Hardbodies
