Olly Moss Comes To America

Dubbed “Poster Boy Wonder”, The New York Times had a nice Sunday write-up on Olly Moss and his new Captain America posters for Alamo Drafthouse.

His Rolling Roadshow Tour posters gathered no moss, so these Cap’n USA sheets will surely sell out quickly (if not already)!

Batman Copycat?

Yahoo says the new Dark Knight Rises teaser poster has a familiar case of Inception. Luckily, they’re both directed by Christopher Nolan!

Remake Monday: Bastardized!

Okay, Quentin Tarantino‘s Inglorious Basterds (2009) isn’t technically a remake of the Inglorious Bastards of ’78 — other than the title and a slight plot resemblance of ex-WWII soldiers wreaking havoc on the Nazis…but, with the recent success of The Expendables, there’s no doubt that QT reinvented what surely will be a new wave of 70’s style action-adventure ensemble films.

Some Kind of Wonderful?

Nikki Finke is not happy about the new Wonder Woman from DC Comics. Are you?

Whatever your personal criteria, at least this comic strip doesn’t feature Megan Fox or Kim Kardashian.

Super Salk!

Although not as well-known or, quite frankly, important as Jonas Salk, his polio-fighting namesake, Larry Salk (1936-2004) (no relation) made his own profound impact on the world of key art. He got his start in fashion illustration and then quickly evolved into the world of movie poster work, where he designed over 165 one sheets for various film studios and distributors.

But, ironically, what Salk is probably going to be most remembered for is his infamous oil portrait of Kramer from an episode of the 90’s hit TV show, Seinfeld.

The Scarlett Widow

The new Black Widow character posters from Iron Man 2 are out and Scarlett Johannson’s lookin’ pretty badass!

But let’s see how she stacks up against these other superheroines…

Robert Culp (1930-2010)

Robert Culp died today at the age of 79. I mostly remember him from that campy 80’s TV show, The Greatest American Hero and later when he was relegated to playing cranky lawyers and executives — but he had a pretty distinguished career as a heartthrob back in the day. And some pretty colorful posters, too! May he rest in peace.

Bombed Out

Go Into The Story has a nice graphic about all of the sequels that have bombed since the 80’s. Funny thing is, prior to 2000, sequels were deemed as cheap, inferior, money-grubbing ripoffs — but now with all of these Marvel box office behemoths, they’ve become legit.
