Movie poster trends come and go, but there is no doubt that the hottest new kid on the block is Mondo, the mates behind the Alamo Drafthouse, who have rejuvenated the morbid market with their revamped one-sheets designs for The Rolling Roadshow Tour from such graphic design prodigys as Olly Moss and Jason Munn.

Just caught the new Woody Allen romancer, Midnight In Paris — and while admiring the Van Gogh Starry Night inspiration for the movie poster, I couldn’t help but wonder if Van Gogh were alive today, what kind of one sheets would he create?

Considering his legendary slicing off the ear incident, I certainly hope he wouldn’t choose the blood-and-gore route like all of those horribly graphic Saw posters.

From kitsch to classics, this one-time comics artist has created numerous eye-popping images that will be celebrated in movie poster history for many more years to come.

Super Spielberg!

It was a super duper weekend at the box office for Super 8, the new J.J. Abrams/Steven Spielberg-produced film that’s been described as a 21st Century mix of E.T. (by John Alvin) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

In the past, you’ve heard about the infamous Italian trio of artists who dubbed themselves The BCM Studio (Ballester–Capitani-Martinati) — but I’ve yet to dedicate a single post to the movie posters credited solely to Luigi Martinati. So hang onto your hats, folks, because it doesn’t get much better than this…
