Elizabeth Taylor Dies

Elizabeth Taylor, one of Hollywood’s great golden beauties, has died at the age of 79. Known for her sexy screen presence and a tumultuous romantic life, most notably a torrid on-and-off affair with fellow actor, Richard Burton, Ms. Taylor spent the latter chapter of her life dedicated to many charity causes, including fighting AIDS. Long live the queen!

X Marks The Spot!

What you gotta love about EMoviePoster.com is that you can discover some of the “best” worst movie posters ever made, which brings me to these corny porn X-Rated ditties.

Not surprisingly, sexploitation movie posters actually have a small, but loyal fan base as there have been two high-profile books published on the genre, X-Rated: Adult Movie Posters of the 60’s and 70’s, and Trash: The Graphic Genius of Xploitation Movie Posters, both of which happen to be very entertaining…or so I’ve heard!

Jack the Rippers!

Jack The Ripper is one of those reknown British tales of terror that’s been passed down through generations with many different versions, much like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde — and will presumably sooner than later be given the big-budget Major Motion Picture remake á la Sherlock Holmes.

But for the time being, let’s enjoy these killer French movie posters of The Grim Ripper by such designers as Jouineau Bourduge (top left) and the like…

All That Jazz…

Speaking of Billie Holiday, here’s a few more jazzy movie posters featuring the music biopics of Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, and Thelonious Monk (the latter two films of which were produced by superstar jazz fan, Clint Eastwood).

And if jazz trumpet is your thing, you might also dig these Chet Baker movie posters by famed fashion photog, Bruce Weber.

X’ed Out!

Yahoo! has publicly ripped the new X-Men posters as “amateurish”. To me, it looks like Saul Bass meets “The Floating Heads“…You be the judge!

Also included in the Yahoo! spanking is a link to Oddee’s Worst Movie Posters Ever, which takes potshots at such legendary poster artists as Larry Salk (Superman 3) and Richard Amsel (Up The Sandbox).

Apartment Therapy Goes To The Movies…

Though they don’t really feature movie posters, Apartment Therapy has a nice little feature on the best movie interiors and production designers in the film biz, starting with one of my favorites, The Royal Tenenbaums

Wired Mag Hartts Movie Posters…

Wired Magazine has a fun mash-up by Sean Hartter of some fantastic sci-fi fantasy casting choices with modern actors taking on roles in past classics — and vice versa! (via APF)

Throw Capone A Bone!

To finish off mob week, I figured we should go right to the top dog by featuring cinema’s most notorious gangster, Al Capone.

Several biopics have tried to capture the killer Capone, but I would pick out DeNiro’s performance in The Untouchables and Boris Grinsson’s French affiches of Rod Steiger as the best in the lineup — even though John Solie’s one-sheets of Ben Gazzara do make him look like a pretty badass version of the 1920’s kingpin…even if he is wearing spats!

Dillinger Movie Posters

Contemporary film fans were gunned down by Chicago gangster, John Dillinger, last summer with Johnny Depp’s dead-eye portrayal in Public Enemies. But there have been plenty of other pics profiling the charming Depression-era bank robber over the years…
