Prohibition Is Prohibited.

I didn’t get a chance to see all of the new Ken Burns PBS doc, Prohibition — but what I did see definitely quenched my thirst as Hollywood’s favorite mobster, Al Capone, played a huge role…

Jobs Jobs Jobs…

Visionary. Genius. Icon. It’s not often that these kind of lofty terms seem too insufficient to describe a person — but that just might be the case in regards to tech giant, Steve Jobs, the founding father of Apple Computer, who passed away this week at the age of 56. Even if you don’t own a Mac computer or iPhone or iPod, it’s hard to imagine modern life without his contributions.

ORIGINALLY POSTED MAY 2010: These posters are from Apple’s Think Different ad campaign back in the early 90’s.

Although this post doesn’t feature movie posters, one could argue that Steve Jobs and his Mac have done more for visual artists than any invention of mankind — except for maybe whoever came up with the paintbrush. But since we don’t know who that is, I’m going with Jobs!

Do It David O’Daniel Style!

Much like his predecessors — and contemporaries — Peter Strausfeld, Olly Moss, and Jason Munn who all supplied their original movie poster visions to the UK’s Academy Cinema and Alamo Drafthouse, respectively — now comes along David O’Daniel and his wonderful limited edition silkscreens for The Castro Theatre in San Francisco.

Jagged Edges…

The new Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher one-sheet for the upcoming biopic, The Iron Lady, looks like it was ripped off the pages of late 20th Century movie poster history…

Adventures in Babysitting 2011?

Scary Good New Posters…or Just Scary?

And if you mixed all these one-sheets together into a scary movie poster potluck, you might get this early 90’s classic…(ImpAwards)

Real Men Wear Black!

Is Sean Penn’s new one-sheet for This Must Be The Place an homage to the 1968 Italian film poster for The Bride Wore Black (by Ferracci)? (ImpAwards and EatBrie)

Of course, don’t confuse these titles with this Chuck Norris fashionable-action classic…

The Rum Diary Drinks Up Eat Pray Love?

It appears that the studio behind Johnny Depp’s new Hunter S. Thompson biopic, The Rum Diary, was inspired by the Eat Pray Love print marketing campaign…or maybe they just had too much to drink! (ImpAwards)

Drive Hard!

Ryan Gosling appears to be doing his best Steve McQueen in this weekend’s high-testosterone octane release, Drive.

Btw, here’s a few other scenic drives, including the classic Taxi Driver one-sheet, which features the graphic stylings of Guy Peellaert)…
