Tom Hodge aka The Dude Designs — not to be confused with that other dude from The Big Lebowski (although Hodges’ artwork does show off a certain original charm and character) — is doing his darnedest to elevate the art of the B-movie horror poster and DVD artwork to a B+ level and beyond!

Inception-ing the Tree of Life
Two recent movies that I wanted to love — but, honestly, didn’t quite totally understand (although the visuals were stunning) were Inception and The Tree of Life. Luckily, my cognitive limitations didn’t prevent me from enjoying their maze-terful movie posters/marketing campaigns!
You Down With MCP?
…yeah, you know me! The wonderful Spanish movie poster trifecta dubbed Estudio MCP (not to be mixed up with The BCM Studio of Italy) — specifically, Ramon Marti, Josep Clave, and Hernan Pico — first appeared on my radar when they were featured in the coffeetable classic, Art of the Modern Movie Poster, by Dave Kehr and Sam Sarowitz, aka Mr. Posteritati.
Sticking to their specialty of film noir and action dramas, the MCP set Español cinemas on fire from the 1950s into the early 1970s with their red hot-blooded designs.
Scary Casaro!
When most movie poster lovers think of Renato Casaro, they recall his strong, bold dramatic work for Conan the Barbarian and Amadeus.
But let’s not forget that he could also be scary. Very scary…
Prohibition Is Prohibited.
I didn’t get a chance to see all of the new Ken Burns PBS doc, Prohibition — but what I did see definitely quenched my thirst as Hollywood’s favorite mobster, Al Capone, played a huge role…
Tattooed!
I’ve never been a huge fan of tattoos — with the exception of Hervé Villechaize (Fantasy Island) — but these inked-up one-sheets do have a certain colorful charm, don’t they?
By the way, the Casino Royale was done by Bond poster expert, Robert McGinnis.
Real Men Wear Black!
Is Sean Penn’s new one-sheet for This Must Be The Place an homage to the 1968 Italian film poster for The Bride Wore Black (by Ferracci)? (ImpAwards and EatBrie)
Of course, don’t confuse these titles with this Chuck Norris fashionable-action classic…
Drive Hard!
Ryan Gosling appears to be doing his best Steve McQueen in this weekend’s high-testosterone octane release, Drive.
Btw, here’s a few other scenic drives, including the classic Taxi Driver one-sheet, which features the graphic stylings of Guy Peellaert)…
The Gambler Gets Departed…
Sometimes you gotta know when to hold ’em and know when to fold ’em, but what if you don’t know there’s a game going on?
James Toback (of Fingers fame) just found out that Martin Scorsese, Leonard DiCaprio, and screenwriter William Monaghan (the same crew behind The Departed) are re-making his 1974 film, The Gambler — but apparently, the studio forgot to tell him!
