Blow’d Up!

Wanna see some world-class takes on a classic movie poster? Let’s look at Blow Up, the 1960’s sexy swinging mod movie directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, with a soundtrack by early Herbie Hancock.

With help from Georges Kerfyser (French), Ercole Brini (Italian) and Waldemar Swierzy (Polish), this movie poster knows how to make love to the camera!

Girl On A Motorcycle Smackdown!

One of the most popular movie posters — but not so much the movie — is the 1967 European biker romance flick, Girl On A Motorcycle. Haven’t seen the film, but the posters certainly look like a bit of a tease!

Love These Proper Movie Posters!

Although it’s not Steve McQueen’s finest film, these worldly movie posters for the 1964 romancer, Love With The Proper Stranger, certainly make my heart flutter — especially the Italian foglio by Ercole Brini (bottom left) and the Boris Grinsson Frenchie (bottom right).

Great Gambit!

With word that CBS Films was gambling on a remake of the original Michael CaineShirley MacLaine heist flick, Gambit (with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz taking over the roles), I couldn’t help but flash back to Boris Grinsson’s extraordinary French Grande (left) and the original US one-sheet…

Elizabeth Taylor Dies

Elizabeth Taylor, one of Hollywood’s great golden beauties, has died at the age of 79. Known for her sexy screen presence and a tumultuous romantic life, most notably a torrid on-and-off affair with fellow actor, Richard Burton, Ms. Taylor spent the latter chapter of her life dedicated to many charity causes, including fighting AIDS. Long live the queen!

River of No Returns!

Although it’s not a super popular Marilyn Monroe film, the movie poster for River of No Return surely begs to differ…in all its different versions!

Strippers!

Yesterday we unleashed Jack The Ripper and today we’re going to lift up the sheets on The Stripper, a little-known 60’s B-movie starring Joanne Woodward who, as you may well know, was happily married to Paul Newman for 50+ years. The top two French versions of the poster were done by French kingpin-up artist, Boris Grinsson.

Jack the Rippers!

Jack The Ripper is one of those reknown British tales of terror that’s been passed down through generations with many different versions, much like Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde — and will presumably sooner than later be given the big-budget Major Motion Picture remake á la Sherlock Holmes.

But for the time being, let’s enjoy these killer French movie posters of The Grim Ripper by such designers as Jouineau Bourduge (top left) and the like…

The Gun Show

That lovable peacenik, Al Capone, once said in The Untouchables, “They say you can get further with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word.” Well, you wouldn’t know it by this post, but I’m actually an anti-gun advocate — except, of course, when it comes to the movies! Hypocritical? Definitely. But the (phallic?) symbol of the gun seems to be a universal theme everywhere in the world of movie posters.

So if you like these mean machine sheets, then you might like my other pals, Django, Dillinger, and the Twins.
